PORCELAIN ARTEFACTS

Japanese  Sake Cup - Geisha Girl Lithophane Base

This little sake cup was probably made circa 1945, especially for sale to the U.S. troops stationed in Japan after hostilities ceased.
When held to the light an amazingly clear image of a beautiful Geisha girl is seen.Japanese Geisha Girl Sake Cup-Lithophane Base

This is acheived by the varying degrees of thickness of the porcelain, which in turn controls the passage of light, to give varying degrees of translucency.
The vision will alter in both colour and clarity, depending upon the light source and strength.
