Home Collectables Metalware - Brass, Copper ,Pewter, Other Pewter METALWAREPewterPEWTER MUGS
These are 5 of the 19 different pewter mugs I have hanging from an old beam above our kitchen window. I like them. They remind me of the decor of some of the old country pubs I sometimes visited in my mis-spent youth ! These 5 vary in size: the one on the left is 5 inches high, whilst the one on the right is 3.75 inches high. I have photographed the marks on four of the bases, but was unable to photograph the mark on the much older mug, first from left, because the mark is inside ALDERSON arranged in a circle, The left mug's marks are shown in Photo 3. The middle mug's mark is shown in Photo 4

The mug, first from right, has a glass bottom and it's mark is shown on the right side of the handle. The mug on the right has a hammered finish, a decoration often used by TUDRIC pewter designed by ARCHIBALD KNOX (1864-1933) and sold by LIBERTY'S in London in the early 1900's. However, this little mug is 'KIRRA' pewter, made in Melbourne, Australia. I find it quite fascinating researching my pewter on the Internet, since some have inscriptions. The left mug has 'K.A.R. Thames Cup Eight 1961' My late elder brother, Dr. Bernard Watney rowed in the Monkton Combe School 'Eight' at Henley-on-Thames, before the second world war. My grandfather was 'Head of the River' in the sculls back in the 1800's !
