STERLING SILVER TOAST RACKS

Pair Wm. Hutton & Co. Ltd Sterling Silver Toast Racks

These are an example of a pair of Toast Racks in Sterling Silver made by WILLIAM HUTTON & CO.LTD in Sheffield in 1934.

They also have the 'Jubilee Mark'.  The 'Jubilee Mark'  was important to me, because at the tender age of eight I witnessed the remarkable ceremony on May 6th 1935 of the Jubilee Procession of King George V and Queen Mary.  I saw this from a window seat in an office building just outside, either St. Paul's Cathedral or Westminster Abbey.  I do apologise for my poor memory, but it was 71 years ago, so I hope you will excuse me.  I now know it was St. Paul's Cathedral because my lovely wife, Shirley, has found the info' on the Net.  I spent ages yesterday trying to find the venue, but to no avail.  My Shirley is a real 'ferret' - she will find any info' in a few minutes - I find little in hours.                                                                                                     Halmark Wm Hutton & Co. This is the oldest Sterling Silver Toast Rack I own. It was made by James Beebe in London in 1808. It was sold on eBay as a 'James Beebe 1888', but the seller had obviously misread the hallmarks because the 'Leopard's Head' Assay Mark for London is crowned.  The 1888 London Assay Mark is an uncrowned Leopard's Head.
