I wrote this in December, 1966,  in Portelet,  Jersey, Channel Islands.

DECEMBER IN THE BAY

It's fine today - 'sthough Spring has come too soon,
The sun is mirrored on a 'mill-pond' sea,
The fantails coo whilst sparrows share their grain,
The bay's at peace and peace is here with me.

It's fine today - forgotten flowers are bright,
The sky's as blue as on a Summer's day,
A spider's silken threads gleam in the light,
Peace is with me and all around the bay.

It's fine today - a magpie calls his mate,
The seagulls soar in circles endlessly.
The sparrows twitter on the garden gate,
The bay's at peace and peace is here with me.

It's fine today and good to be alive.
I hope this beauty has now come to stay.
As birds and flowers; so I on sunshine thrive,
Peace is with me and I feel fine today.
